Unleashing the potential of young rural people

Synthesis paper prepared by the Near East, North Africa and Europe Division on the occasion of the side events on rural youth and development, 34th session of the IFAD Governing Council

In preparation for the side events on rural youth and development organized as part of the 34th session of the Governing Council of the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD), the Near East, North Africa and Europe Division chose to focus on the issue of youth employment and the strategies in place to empower young rural people to access and retain decent jobs. The aim of the present paper is to provide a synthesis of youth participation in the labour force, the specific challenges facing young rural men and women, the constraints they meet and the successful initiatives that can be replicated.
